Karuslase (Karuslane)
Wood tiger moth, whose full name is teelehe-karuslane (lit. bearlike plantain), Parasemia plantaginis, In the footsteps (literally, see Teelehe) of Biston betularia, males occur in two different color patterns: yellow and white, and are thus studied for selection pressures. Lagedi (?)
Manor house outside Tallinn first mentioned in 1397, name derived from German Laakt. Belonged in late 16th C to first-known of the line of Hans Wachtmeisters, apparently born in Hiiumaa and adopted his name (lit. Watch sergeant) while in the German army before emigrating to Sweden in 1569. Settlements date back to late Bronze Age.
Varsaallika (Varsaallikas)
Foal’s/Colt’s/Filly’s source/spring. Feeds a river which once drained into the Tallinna Laht (Tallinn Bay or Bight). Said to be named after a spring used by local stud farm to water its, er, draught foals. Known as Warthallick (1689) and Warſhallik (1689 & 1726), but has too much the ring of a mondegreen for a now-forgotten personal name, although its definitely Estonian allick[a] ending and the relatively common occurrence of combined German-Estonian names (Biſchofs Koppel, 1726, etc.) leave the question wide open.
